PHOTOGRAPHY:: LEVITATION PHOTOS

We all know the pains of taking a successful jumping photo. The camera ALWAYS captures you landing, or before you've left the ground. It doesn't help that I have a vertical leap of 1 inch. It always takes at least 10 attempts, and in the event that I take a successful jumping photo, my shoulders are inevitably somewhere up near my ears and my face looks like I've just been electrocuted. So imagine my admiration for Natsumi Hayashi and her levitating self portraits, taken with a 10 second self timer and a tripod. It's all in the peaceful expression and her relaxed limbs. But I prefer to imagine Natsumi floating around Japan, floating onto the train and floating down the street. Supremely inspiring photos, and you better believe I'm going to be trying to take some more relaxed jumping photos, how bout you?

THIS WEEK ON:: ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY

Most girls might see a gold lamé blazer and think: "I could wear that on New Year's Eve!"...Not Rosie. 

No she wore hers over a white tee and jeans to In-N-Out . (For those who don't know, it's a fast food burger joint). And I love her for it! You may notice that most of Rosie's outfits are variations on the same outfit: skinny (waxed) jeans, tee, blazer, ankle boots. I respect a woman who knows her style, knows what works for her, knows what's flattering, and is fully confident in strutting it all day every day. To the airport, to an event, to a burger joint. All one strong look. I imagine that would also make it quite easy to get dressed in the morning as well. I've gotta work on focusing my wardrobe down to this effect, and not get distracted while shopping...... "oh neon! that's cute."

COLOR OF THE WEEK:: MICHELLE WILLIAMS' DRESS

Did y'all watch the Oscars last night? I gasped when I saw Michelle Williams (and squealed at Gwyneth Paltrow!) So it was only fitting that the coral red hue of Michelle's Louis Vuitton gown be named our Color of the Week. And the only thing I adored more than her dress? The pink clutch she carried with it! A perfect pair.

PRABAL GURUNG SPRING 2012

Here's a little more of our Color of the Week, PLUS those purple paint pants I love so much all courtesy of Prabal Gurung Spring 2012. Yea, Spring. Despite the fact that it is currently Autumn/Winter 2012 Fashion Week. To be honest I find it all so overwhelming! I was actually in New York last fashion week and did find myself at Lincoln Center (to attend Romeo and Juliet by the NYCBallet on Valentine's Day! Swoon!) but I personally prefer to observe the fashion week frenzy from the comfort of my own Mac with a stack of magazines and a cup of tea. And even that can be overwhelming with so much Twitter/Style.com/blogger coverage. So I've retreated back to Spring 2012, which I know and love. I just need some time to get to know the new collections, maybe take them out for a bite to eat, a movie. Yunno before I feel comfortable with them and build that familiarity. Yunno what I mean?

COLOR OF THE WEEK:: BOTTOM OF THE POOL BLUE

You probably saw this one coming, with the turquoise floors over the weekend. This is the color you see when you're lying at the bottom of the pool looking up at the sky. Which if you can't tell is exactly what I would like to be doing right this moment. It's just sunny enough outside to start fantasizing about pool days and summer, really quite a lovely feeling. If only summer weren't still so far away!

SPIKED STILETTOS PLEASE

Can we all collectively breathe a sigh of relief that Knight Cat is back!? Her blog is one of those mainstays that never fails to get me inspired again when I'm in a rut. Her consistency is something I strive for here on Fuji Files. Take for example this collection by msgm! No, I had never heard of them before either, but now they're certainly on my radar with those spiked stilettos, striped tuxedo pant and a dash of pattern-mixing. Zara would do well to check out this collection in styling their next lookbook, am I right?

INTERIORS:: CRUSHING ON TURQUOISE FLOORS

This is the PR showroom of Citizens of Humanity (yunno the jeans!) but... I would happily live in this showroom forever and ever and ever. Turquoise blue walls are so done (at least they were done by me, when I was 15!) but turquoise floors with bright white walls is a new spin I could really get behind. It somehow feels like blue floors are more versatile than blue walls, am I right? When I get over layered kilims and beachy boheme accessories I could switch them out for more traditional pieces in dark neutral colors and these floors would still look fab. What do you think?

BINDER COVERS & STELLA McCARTNEY

My favorite print campaign of the season.

Reminds me of the collages I used to make on my binders, hours spent painstakingly cutting letters and pictures out of magazines and taping them to a piece of paper to slide into my binder cover. My masterpieces! I'd love to see what Tavi's binders look like.

HOW TO:: WEAR A FUR STOLE

Derek Lam's Pre-Fall collection was basically a manual on how to wear a fur stole - a piece I have been contemplating purchasing for a long time (vintage, natch). I did actually find the perfect black stole once in Shanghai, and in my efforts to play hardball while bartering I tried the "walk away and pretend you don't want it until they lower the price" technique... that didn't end up working out for me. It is now one of my great shopping regrets. Sigh.

COLOR OF THE (VALENTINE'S) WEEK

I mean... could it have been any other color this week? Didn't think so. I didn't actually fall in love with pink until the past couple years, I had always placed it in the 'too girly' category. But now I've found that this hue is my absolute favorite accent color in the home, it ALWAYS looks sharp and makes an impact in every single setting. Every. time.
