DIY FILES:: SPRING PATIO MAKEOVER

PLANTS  /  PAINT BRUSH  /  PAINT  /  POTS
We've all been crazy for pastels now that spring is here, but I thought it'd be fun to give the patio a colorful spring makeover too! I'm used to going to Michael's and Hobby Lobby for my diy needs, but all of these supplies actually come from Home Depot! A few succulents (the easiest plants to maintain!), some planters and a simple coat of paint. I'm a sucker for the classic red door but this has me considering me a brilliant blue door instead!

Will you be dressing up your patio this spring?

GET THE LOOK:: KATE BOSWORTH

This post is the result of another of my online shopping 'research' sessions. As I've said before, when buying items online I often scour the internet for photographic evidence of the piece being worn in a variety of ways, mostly because it is difficult from staring at the limited number of product images to know what it will look like in real life. Will I love it? Will I actually wear it? What can I wear it with? Researching Jewelmint purchases is always made very easy by the fact that Kate Bosworth can always be found wearing her pieces in her everyday life. Now this may be a very strategic marketing decision but it gets me every time! If Kate Bosworth is wearing it, then I've chosen well, right? Take for example the Lost City necklace featured in this look. Kate's wearing it in 3 of the photos above! With her ombre denim shirt, a striped henley, and even over a plain black tee. The Lost City necklace was one of the first pieces I bought from Jewelmint, and while I don't wear necklaces all that often I find this one goes with everything. Oh yeah and here's a fun fact: Kate Bosworth shares her stylist (Cher Coulter) with none other than... Rosie Huntington-Whiteley! Whose style I also admire and have featured here on the blog. Apparently Rosie told her assistant she wanted to be dressed by the same stylist as KB, and I don't blame her!
So really all of this credit should be going to Cher, who coincidentally also designs for Jewelmint. So Cher, if you're reading, I love your work!

Have you all tried out Jewelmint yet? What are your favs?

LEOPARD + WINGED EYELINER + POP ART

If my side part was this deep, and my eyeliner this winged, I would look.. silly. But I'm going to try it in the mirror later nonetheless. This is the new Karla Spetic collection featuring lots of pop art, leopard print, stripes, and a bright to-die-for yellow! This lookbook reminds me of this killer editorial from Vogue Australia, and appeals to the ladylike 50's vibe that is really tugging at my heart strings of late. I bought a beautiful yellow sundress when thrifting last week, I think it had something to do with the fact that I was already wearing a polkadot sundress and wearing fuschia lipstick..
I was under the influence of my clothes!

Does this ever happen to you?

HAIR ENVY:: SHORT + EDGY

catherine_mcneil Vogue Australia April 2012 4

I'm that girl who plagues her friends and boyfriend for weeks months before taking a hair risk. Sorry, but I am. I've had far too many hairdressers go rogue on my hair to feel at ease (that moment when a trim turns into 10 inches. gone). I've gone through my stages but ultimately I feel that I am a long hair girl at heart. You better believe it would take me a good year of pulling my hair back in a fake bob to work up the courage to this edgy chop, but I'm certainly picturing it now! I fear I don't have the sharp features and killer jawline to carry this cut, I might end up resembling a 5 year old boy.. but a girl can dream! These hair cravings have turned into a bit of a regular Hair Envy series here on FF.

Maybe this is a healthy way to express my haircut urges that won't drive my friends and family crazy!
You guys don't mind, do you?

p.s. this editorial is crazy awesome right? Sydney's Bondi beach looks stunning and I miss it like no other

AT HOME WITH:: JANE FROM SEAOFSHOES

This is what my first apartment looked like too. . .

Jane from SeaofShoes has moved! No not domain names. Nothing that serious. She's just moved into a new apartment, and has been generous enough to share a few peeks with us on her blog. You can see definite influences from her mother's design genius at play in here, but like with all things she has injected her own taste into the space (like her white porcelain cat, Gish). Also, I had a slap-my-forehead moment today when I realized that Jane should have been in my Little Mermaid hair post! In fact she went bright red before either of the other girls, so she really deserved the top spot. Alas, I think I'll have to do another Ariel hair feature and next time Taylor Tomasi will have to play a role too.

WHAT WE WORE:: SXSW + ST. PADDY'S DAY

sxsw armband = hottest accessory around
This was Nancy's first time taking outfit photos. She's a natural, isn't she?

ON ME: HAT URBAN OUTFITTERS / SHIRT J.CREW / JEANS ZARA / PURSE ZARA / SHOES STEVE MADDEN
ON NANCY: WATCH MICHAEL KORS / SHOES DSW / NECKLACE MACY'S / PURSE GSPOT THRIFT SHOP / THE REST VINTAGE & THRIFTED!

Hope you all had a smashing St-Paddy's-Day-sxsw-weekend! Oh, and let's go ahead and call green our Color of the Week shall we? This is my friend Nancy, she's made a sneaky appearance here on FF before and it was so much fun that we decided to take some outfit photos this weekend! SXSW took Austin by storm the past 10 days and I can say with a touch of relief that it is now over and life can go back to normal. Maybe next year I'll be better prepared for the onslaught that is sxsw, but I found it all to be a tad overwhelming! Were any of you in town for sxsw?

What did you wear for St. Paddy's Day?

HAIR ENVY:: LITTLE MERMAID HAIR

We all have our girlhood idols, for some it's Belle, others it's Barbie. For me? Ariel, 4 times a day circa 1990-1994. Combine that with my current Taylor Tomasi obsession (see below) and you've got full-fledged hair envy for this new Little Mermaid hair color. Just imagine sitting in the salon chair having this done to you. The nerves!!! My worry would be in maintaining the vibrance once it was done, oh and roots growing in.

What do you think, would you? Could you?

INTERIORS:: TAYLOR TOMASI HILL

True to her personal style, Taylor Tomasi's New York home is unexpected and unconventional. I can't say I've ever seen a swan suspended above a bed. And seeing Taylor's bedroom makes me feel like my choice of grey sheets and white comforter is very boring indeed. That girl has a knack for pattern mixing that crosses all boundaries.

This girl crush has just reached new levels.
