THIS WEEKEND WHY NOT... RED CARPET INSPIRATION!

I have citron on the brain, and it's clear why. Julianne Moore and Julie Bowen were the two stand-out dresses for me at the Emmy's. Julianne's dress was the most memorable for me, and Julie's was the one I'd most likely choose to wear myself. It's no coincidence that citron is (and always has been) the accent color here on FUJI FILES. It's my favorite. And I'm loving that it was so well represented at the Emmy's this year!

So this weekend, why not take a cue from the Red Carpet and work a little citron into your outfit?

STREET STYLED:: POPPY DELEVIGNE LFW

This is one of my favorite street style looks to come out of Fashion Week so far. And it's no surprise, Poppy Delevigne is arguably London's biggest street style superstar (alongside her model sister, Cara!). I could devote a whole blog to the Delevigne sisters, but for today I'm focusing on this eclectic ensemble. You'd think that an embroidered top and ripped jeans could so easily go the route of the beachy bohemian (read: cliche) but this is no beach, it's London Fashion Week.

It's easy to fall into the trap of formula dressing - going out on the town? Little dress, high heel. Going to the beach? Breezy blouse, ripped jeans. But for that unexpected edge, it's all about the mix. I wouldn't have thought to mix daywear and nightwear quite like this, but I'll definitely be trying to look at my closet a little differently.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE EDITORIAL :: ADRIANA LIMA CITY TWEED

I first fell truly madly deeply in love with fashion through magazines. Glossy pages, awe-inspiring editorials, jaw-droppingly gorgeous models. It's a deep and unending love. Then there came blogs, with their pedestrian perspective and daily content right at your fingertips. I love them too. My favorite thing ever though? A combination of the two. My favorite thing ever is when magazines shoot realistic editorials, like a day in the life of a ridiculously stylish individual who happens to look like a model. Basically this editorial.

This, dear readers, is my favorite editorial of all time. No matter how many new magazines I read, no matter how many phases my style goes through, no matter how many trends come and go, this editorial is the one I come back to time and time again. It might be because I'd wear every single look, it might be the menswear-inspired sensibility (imagine sharing clothes with him!), the timeless palette of black, grey, and army green, or it could just be that Adriana Lima is a babe and a half. You'll notice the arm partiescamo printbaseball caps, and sneakers - all topics I've since blogged about. Whatever it is, it has captivated me for 9 years and counting.

Yes! 9 Years! This editorial is from the September Issue of Elle, 2003 (don't believe me? just check out the flip phone he has around his neck!). And this isn't the first time it has appeared here on Fuji Files. I posted it before and chances are I'll post it again when I feel so inclined!

Do you all have a favorite editorial of all time? I'd love to see it :)

This weekend why not... No. 2

It's almost fall, but not quite (the first day of fall is tomorrow!) I mean, it's still 93 degrees outside. Veritable bikini weather! Which has me totally torn, of course I want to pull out the knits and boots (ohhh the boots) but I'm still clinging to the dog days of summer - bikinis, neon, beach hair. This weekend why not take a cue from Zippora here and wear BOTH! Neon, knits and bikinis, or even better: a neon knit bikini. That's what I call transitional wear! So this weekend I'll be searching the bikini sale racks, what will you be doing?

Ok, also can we talk about this? Her name is Zippora Seven. Zippora Seven! Is that a name?
Can it be mine?

BAKING FOR BEGINNERS

The peach surprise that I alluded to is finally here... Our first GUEST COLUMN
Our esteemed guest blogger is the sublimely talented Mindy Cohrs, pastry chef extraordinaire and owner of What the Fudge Bakeshop (eep! how cute is that name!?). Yup, my friend's a pastry chef. Jealous? If you are, have no fear, she's here to teach us how to bake in our brand new column Baking for Beginners! Now without further ado, let's give Mindy a warm welcome!

Peach Cobbler Cake

Mindy here, and I love grocery shopping. Love it. It's one of my most favorite things. Now granted, I have lots of 'most favorite things', but this one is definitely top ten. And the love I feel is multifaceted. It encompasses every aspect of the grocery shopping experience, from the fabulous people-watching (always a fun pastime), to the fresh produce, to the cute-but-way-too-young-to-flirt-with boy bagging my (oh-so-hip) greek yogurt.
Speaking of produce, there's a game I like to play. I call it "which fruit are you?" (because I'm super clever like that) and the goal, surprise surprise, is to match up your personality traits with that of a particular fruit. For example, my friend LJ is the perfect embodiment of pineapple: fresh, sweet, a little tangy, and pairs nicely with the sun and a good cocktail. My mom is more of an apple: traditional, sweet, always crisp and clean like her signature white collared shirts. Peaches are my favorite fruit and so, naturally, they are reserved for my favorite person. My grandpa. He was totes a peach. In every sense of the word. Sugary, syrupy sweet in the most charming way but with a flavor all his own and ripe with southern hospitality. He said things like, "gooder 'n garlic" when you asked him how he was doing and called his pants "britches" but my favorite term he used was the one he reserved for me, "grandpa's baby." I was SO grandpa's baby. Always will be.
If grandpa were still here, this is the cake I'd bake him. We'd eat it sitting on the back porch with his dog, Peggy, and his parrot, Jack, while shelling pecans and listening to old country and western songs. Then we'd go for a ride in the golf-cart, maybe play a game of dominoes, and turn in for the night with Lawrence Welk lulling us to sleep in the background. It would be glorious.

Keep reading for the ingredients and steps, after the jump!

BEYOND THE BAR CART on CAMILLESTYLES

If you've totally fallen for bar carts, I recommend peeping my post on Camille Styles this week! I'm ditching the cart and going for an entire bookcase for your beverages. Store your prettiest bottles, tumblers, wine glasses, and carafes on a bookcase in the dining room, or just set it up for your next dinner party (or skip the dinner, just have a party!).

For more bookcase ideas check out my post on CamilleStyles.com!

AN ODE TO...

An ode to the peach. Plus an ode to a brilliant video, dreamy weekends, and the song that I have been playing on repeat for days. In addition to all of these things, this is a super sneaky sneak peek of wonderful things coming to FUJI FILES this week. Super wonderful things. I hope you're as excited as I am for the week to begin! If not... perhaps ease your way into it with this song, Through and Through by My Bubba & Mi. I've been listening to it non-stop I tell you, and I'd love to know what you think of it too :)

An ode to peaches, a fresh new week, and sweet tunes!

This weekend, why not...

Happy Friday dear readers! I hope you have a few fun things on your weekend to do list. If not, here are a couple suggestions to help you along:

1. Clip-In Bangs
Personally, I feel there is still a stigma around extensions, clip in bangs, and fake hair in general. Maybe it's just in my head, but it took me a while to come around to the idea of wearing a wig. But last year I bit the bullet and invested in a set of clip in bangs, and I'm SO glad I did! I've had bangs before, and it was fun for a change. But you know what clip-ins save you? The excruciating pain of growing them out. If you've ever experienced this, then nuff said.

2. Bronzer
Like clip-in bangs, bronzer is another beauty product that I recently tried for the first time. How did I go without for so long? Believe me, I've been asking myself the same question. Ideal for contouring or an all over kiss from the sun, I use Hoola by Benefit. Seeing as it's the first and only bronzer I've ever used, I don't have enough to compare it to. I've hit pan on mine and I'm starting to get excited about my next bronzer purchase! Which should I try next?

3. Pink Lippy
Now this is one I haven't yet tried, but I hear Mac's Saint Germain is the pink lipstick. This sweet Barbie pink shade is much lighter than any lip color I own... all the more reason try it! But be sure to use a bronzer because such a light shade of pink has the potential to wash you out.

Do let me know if you try any of these this weekend, and I'd love to know
what are your favorite bronzers?

KITCHEN CRUSH:: MINT

Mint had a major fashion moment this year, in fact its moment hasn't ended. It's still everywhere! This trend has had more staying power than I expected (and I'm glad, because I totally bought into it) and I think I could live with it for quite a while. Like, forever. It reminds me of the green tint of Spanish glass, and its fresh & clean palette is the perfect setting for preparing food - clearly I want a mint kitchen. I'd go so far as to tile my kitchen in it. I should probably mention that my bedroom was painted mint ("Mint Majesty," to be exact) for years and I absolutely loved the way my black bedframe and white bookshelves looked against it.

Mint + black + white = classic.

MIX & MATCH

Sure, there might be girls out there whose underthings match. Their toes are always manicured and their important papers are labelled and filed. Moi? I prefer to mix and match. Besides, life's more fun that way! These pretty little underthings are sold at Madewell (oh Madewell, how I love surfing your website) and are absolutely perfect for mixing and matching!

A GOOD BEFORE & AFTER

I love a good before & after. And this one's good. Justina Blakeney made this happen "by tacking up a few sarongs and oversized scarves, some ribbons and a couple of lanterns" - she makes it sound so simple. The fact that she looked at that arguably unattractive before and was able to envision this spectacular after is so impressive. This girl should win Design Star. Right?

Now I'm wondering, if I had her vision what could I transform?

Whoa whoa whoa... I want these shoes

I've managed to withhold from the smoking loafers trend for this long. I figure, I've made it this far, surely they're on their way out, I'ma go ahead and let this trend pass me by. It's cool. I don't need to be a part of every shoe trend that catches my fancy for 5 minutes. My wallet will thank me later. And I can handle seeing all of the other cute bloggers in smoking loafers of every color and appreciate them through my computer screen. I don't need to be a part of every shoe trend!

Until...
I saw these.
Blue suede shoes that appeal to my penchant for evil eyes. Imagine the joy I would feel every time I looked down at my feet! These shoes have a GREAT aerial view, a value I feel is so under-rated. Looking down at these would make me SO happy. No, material things do not bring me happiness. But these shoes have eyes, which makes them feel more like people not things... see what my shoe-addicted brain did there?

They're by Barbara Briones, and you can find them here
They also come with lips ;)

GOLD + SILVER

Turns out Olympics hangovers are a very real thing. Following our gold, silver and bronze kitchens I'm on to heavy metals of another variety today. Most people might generally restrict gold and silver pants to New Year's Eve attire (a natural reaction), but check out how casual these looks are! Just put on my gold pants to walk the dog - on a rope. No biggie. Erin Wasson and Elin Kling both wore their fancy pants with plain white tees.

In fact Elin went so far as to wear her silver pants with a t-shirt and a HOODIE - that sloppy college staple that I sometimes pull out more than I'd like to admit. I'm seriously in awe of how cool she just made a zip up hoodie look. I wish I could do that. My personal style conquest has been in mastering the "I'm super cool and I'm not trying" look.. it can so easily translate into just "I'm not trying." But more on that later.

If you prefer to dress things up and look like you are trying, wear a blazer or fur yeti coat. Like so...

All great looks, all paired with a t-shirt, all worn in broad daylight (rather than the din of a loud night club).

IN THE KITCHEN:: HEAVY METAL

I must still have Olympic medals on the brain (finally watched the Spice Girls reunion last night!) because I'm dreaming about gold, silver and bronze finishes in the kitchen.

The kitchen is a room dominated by wall-fulls of wooden cabinetry, and wooden cabinetry can be super susceptible to dating (ie that certain blonde wood kitchen that screams 90's). I think that's why I love these kitchens so much! The metal is the focal point - and gold never gets old. Big call? Maybe. But I'm standing behind it.

Gold never gets old.

Labor Day on CamilleStyles

Happy Labor Day y'all! I put together a little "farewell to summer" soiree for CamilleStyles to celebrate this last long weekend of summer - and now I feel like jumping right into it! Do you guys have any last minute summer activities you're squeezing in?

I know the season is quickly turning here on the blogosphere (everyone's got their sights set on fall fashion) but you guys, it's still 100+ degrees here in Texas... We've got a long way to go before knits are a viable outfit option. So while I may be blogging about boots, you should probably know I'm actually wearing a bikini and flip flops. And likely will be doing so for at least another month. Just sayin.

Happy long weekend!
xo Cristina
