COLOR OF THE (VALENTINE'S) WEEK

I mean... could it have been any other color this week? Didn't think so. I didn't actually fall in love with pink until the past couple years, I had always placed it in the 'too girly' category. But now I've found that this hue is my absolute favorite accent color in the home, it ALWAYS looks sharp and makes an impact in every single setting. Every. time.

I do believe my meals would be all the more colorful if cooked in this kitchen. I wonder where one finds colorful glasses and gold cups? And I wonder if ghost chairs are a trend that will end any time soon... because if I invest in some I'd like them to stay around awhile!

If I wore a blazer as a dress with tights, I'm quite sure I would look like I left home without my pants on. But it was one of my favorite looks at Balmain! For those who prefer not to go pants-less, there were some beautiful wide leg trousers (including velvet!) and some long skirts that ended halfway between the knee and the ankle - my new favorite length.

I don’t really change my earrings much. I wear them continuously until I get bored. These Genevieve Jones safety pins are a definite staple. Many of my most stylish girlfriends wear them. I typically do a small gold one and then one larger one with a couple black or white diamonds. I like wearing earrings in just one ear—it feels a bit punk rock.

Every time a Stylestalker collection comes out I get childishly giddy. And their latest, Come As You Are, is no exception. This dress is particularly tempting, with its white pleats and raw unhemmed edge. I'd wear it with hot pink lipstick some big black shades and my hair up in a bun.

Isn't this dress GLORIOUS!? Just what I needed to snap me out of my default winter black mode. Well, that's if we can even call this 'winter.' Today I wore a black tee, ripped jean shorts, and my wannabe Marant Dickers and was still hot, which sounds positively summer-like. But the point is, tomorrow I aspire to dress in a riot of color just like Caroline Issa. In addition to the blossoms on her dress, her shoes are blue her glasses are lime green and her clutch is coral! And that doesn't even match but I love it anyway. And yet..... something tells me that if I wore blue, green, coral, and florals it wouldn't work out quite as well for me.

Feeling inspired by color today.

DIY FILES:: Sequin Triangle Bra

Yunno those shirts that can't possibly be worn without revealing a bit of your bra? The neck is cut so low or the arm holes are cut so big that I have to wonder what did the maker of this garment expect me to do bra-wise exactly? Well here's a pretty sequinned solution to your bra woes that does not involve a see-through plastic bra strap that you think nobody can see but really everybody can see.. sorry, tiny rant. This amahzing DIY was completed by my fav diy-er Geneva of A Pair & a Spare, she's truly brilliant!

It's like Hanneli's diamond bra and Rumi's triangle bra obsession COMBINED.

Must. have. this. bra.

What you'll need:
- A lightweight plain triangle bra. Geneva used skin colour but black would look great too.
- Sequin fabric. She used bronze colored metal style sequins which have a more subtle look to them.
- A needle and black thread.
- Sewing pins.
- Tracing paper of any kind.
- Scissors.

1. Lay your triangle bra on a flat surface and cover with tracing paper.
2. With a pencil trace the outline of the bra - essentially where you want the sequin fabric to go. I wanted mine within the piped edge of the bra.

3. Cut out the triangle of tracing paper and check to make sure it fits properly on the bra.
4. Pin the triangle to the sequin fabric.

5. Using the traced triangle as a guide, cut out the sequin fabric.
6. You should have a triangle that fits on the bra - check it and shape the fabric if required by cutting away any excess.

7. Pin the sequin triangle to the bra.
8. Using small stitches, attach the sequin fabric to the bra. I made sure that the edges of the sequin fabric were underneath the edge of the bra so it looked more finished. Where possible I sewed the sequins on the edges down so they would not come loose.

So there's a tad bit of sewing involved, but other than that this is a simple, pretty, sequinned, girly DIY that I simply cannot resist! I wish it was summer so that I could pull out all of my drapey tanks and dresses to wear with this number peeking out (see photo below!). Although it could be fun to wear this under a chunky sweater, even if I'm the only one who knows how pretty it is underneath ;)

I'm BACK! From an unanticipated blog-cation. I was without internet for a week (more on that later) and the longer I was away the more daunting the task of returning to regular posts became. Has that ever happened to you? Anyway, I'm back now and feeling reinvigorated so I decided to do a Part 2 of my NYC Snaps. I must confess most of my pictures were food-related.. but here are just a few foodie pics plus some shopping snaps too. I have ALSO resolved to take at least one outfit photo this week, and hopefully making this promise publicly will hold me to it. Do you all have any tips for making outfit photos happen on a regular basis? It's something I'd like to get better at in the New Year, so stay tuned!

FAVORITE COLOR PAIR:: PINK + LAVENDER

My very favorite color of the moment is lavender (please see: my fingernails). Red + pink is a classic for the ages, but pink + lavender is my go-to pairing of choice right now. It's all part of that neutral/neon thing that has taken over my life... and my tumblr. Oh and if these dresses look familiar it's because the bell sleeved dream recently appeared on the red carpet on the adorable Ginnifer Goodwin, and the white was worn by Rooney Mara on the Today Show! The designer is Roksanda Ilincic and I guarrantee this isn't the last we'll be seeing of her!

Bar carts are everywhere these days (chalk it up to Mad Men mania) but this is the first bar cart as night stand I've seen - brilliant!

The perfect neutral couch, in my opinion the best starting off point for a well-designed living room

It was a big day for two of the blogs I contribute to: the January issue of Rue launched today, as expertly edited by Cass Lavalle of coco+kelley. AND Camille of Camille Styles was featured in it! Her beautiful home was also featured on Glitter Guide, big day right?

As you may have guessed this home is fresh out of the new Rue. And though you may have seen me tweeting about the much-appreciated manly design inspo in the magazine (very hard to find!) I then went and fell head over heels for this supremely feminine space - go figure. Blame it on the usual culprits, pink and gold details sprinkled throughout the home, from the bedroom the workspace and even the kitchen!

And my favorite part?

The pintuck comforter (pictured) which I got for Christmas! I was really torn between the light grey and the white, and that last photo sealed the deal on the white for me... almost. (Still love the grey)

How plush does that carpet look? I'm dying to wear some nude pointy toe pumps on a plush white carpet -- in wide leg leather pants. That's right, big baggy wide leg leather pants! I wonder what kind of fashionistas are gonna snap those babies up, and how they're going to style them! I can't wait to see those pants in action! Well that's three sentences in a row that ended with exclamation points so I think I'm going to wrap it up now. You have probably gathered my excitement over this collection.

p.s. I tried to write a follow-up post on the Golden Globes but every arrangement of photos didn't seem to work because... every shot paled in comparison to Angelina Jolie! She was my absolute top pick for the night and no one else was even on the playing field. Rooney Mara and Elle Macpherson were second runners up but really, Angelina owned that red carpet and everyone else was just visiting.

Zooey Deschanel, nominated for her role in New Girl, has an undeniably vintage flair that is adorable and certainly unique in Hollywood (you won't find her in a bandage dress). She rarely wears anything floor length, in fact I only found one example of Ms. Deschanel in a gown. So for the Golden Globes I chose this ankle-grazing Dior Couture extravaganza paired with Miu Miu mary janes, and liquid eyeliner for a winged eye. I'm in love with the lemon meringue color of it, and I do believe she'd look gorgeous in it, don't you?

Can't wait to see what she comes up with for tomorrow!

ZOE FOR A DAY:: CLAIRE DANES

I died. And was reincarnated as Rachel Zoe.

The Golden Globes are just around the corner and I'm having fun predicting what the girls are gonna be wearing, or rather, what I think they should be wearing. Claire Danes here is nominated for her role in Homeland, which I haven't seen yet, but I have seen her rock some amazing looks on the red carpet so it was a lot of fun dressing her up (like playing paper dolls!). I chose this long white lace column because she loves a body skimming silhouette and I'm feeling a 'white moment' for her. I finished her off with a super on-trend hot pink lip and embellished bib necklace.
Neons and neutrals are my major weakness right now, as evidenced by my tumblr!

I'll try to get a few more of these up before the Globes on Sunday, I'm most excited for Rooney Mara!

PRE-FALL FAVORITE: PRABAL GURUNG

I patiently clicked through the Pre-Fall collections one by one and gathered a back-to-basics approach from most. And that's good, I guess. We all need basics. But basics don't compel me to right-click-save. They don't induce a pinterest board. And they certainly don't keep me up at night in a cold sweat - as a few pairs of shoes have been known to do. Basics are good. That is all.
Which brings me to Prabal Gurung. Prabal's Pre-Fall 2012 Collection feels relevant and utterly essential to my wardrobe in that way that basics do - leather shorts, collared shirt, flared skirt, all true blue basics. But still I feel a childlike magnetism to the kaleidoscopic prints, a curious excitement towards the socks & stilettos (do I dare?), and my trend radar's spiking off the charts over the batty sunglasses. All set against a pale pink background that has me reconsidering my bedroom walls.

And if that's not enough to awaken your fashion loins from basics boredom, just read what Prabal has to say about this collection, and the next:

I'm feeling particularly inspired by the color combination of white, gold, and black right now, so I threw together an example of just how I'd like to wear it. White button down shirt - buttoned all the way up! With a raaad crystal necklace tucked in right under the collar. Black boots, black clutch, and a white blazer, all of which I actually do own so this look is somewhat feasible. And just to spice things up some leopard shorts, just because.

How cute is that gold card holder? It's by Reed Krakoff, who makes the most magically perfect handbag I've ever seen yet will never be able to afford. The cardholder however sits at a conceivably attainable price point of $130. Not saying I'm gonna buy it, but just that it's within reach ;)

DIY FILES:: WRITING RESOLUTIONS - & KEEPING THEM!

Happy New Year's girls! There's something about that clock ticking down to zero that inspires us to reflect on the past 365 days and to lay out a plan to make the next 365 even better. I've been doing my fair share of reflecting the past couple of days, so I was thrilled when I found this simple guide for keeping resolutions on A Pair and a Spare.
It seems pretty simple when you break it down, right? But if you're a free spirit and this method is all a bit too structured for you, then maybe Tolly's idea of creating a New Year's Word might appeal to you. According to Tolly a "New Year's Word is looser, yet has an ability to focus all your actions to a single rallying point. And thus, is more effective." Camille wrote a beautiful post about her words of 2011 here, full of inspiration!

I for one am going to be trying both of these out, (and I would love to use one of these beautiful notebooks to do it). I haven't decided yet if I'll do a post on my words and resolutions, but I'm absolutely excited to get started!

DIY CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS - ok so I'm late

So, I know I'm late on this. Very, very, late. But how CUTE are these Christmas tree ornaments!?! They come in 8 paper templates in brightly colored paper that you cut and fold yourself. Easiest DIY ever. They're officially called Cut-and-Fold Paper Polyhedra Ornaments, but I think the name makes it sound more complicated than it is. And I think assembling them would have a kindergarten-craft-time sense of fun to them.

Of course they make perfectly bright Christmas ornaments, but I believe they would look equally fabulous hanging up around your pad year round!

THIS WEEK ON:: NICOLE RICHIE (BANGS!)

It's here. Again. That craving for a haircut and style that are incompatible with my hair and always will be (read: thick and curly). It wouldn't be the first time I've taken a Nicole Richie photo into the salon and said "I want this." Her fringe is a fabulous accessory and ups the chic factor in every one of her looks. But for me they have more of a 5th grader affect. I have done bangs before, and I rued them every day that I had them. But now that they're finally grown out, I kinda want them back! It's reading leblogdebetty, gets me every time. In fact I tweeted about it and Betty favorited my tweet! Eep! I've even started a Pinterest board called Bangs... I know. I've got it bad.

I wish I could find a more eloquent way to put this but... I died. I'm so looking forward to seeing these on everyone's feet in the near future. And for the high street outlets to produce gold capped shoes! Speaking of sparkle, I removed my ombre manicure last night and it was. so. hard. Do any of you ladies have tips for removing glitter nail polish? I had to soak my nails in nail polish remover (like you do with acrylic nails) and it was still impossible! No matter. I'm already planning my next glitter mani, sans ombre effect this time!

My FIRST DIY FILE! Ombre Glitter Manicure

Here's my attempt at the ombre glitter manicure I swooned over on Alexa Chung. This also marks the very FIRST DIY File completed by yours truly! Usually I use DIY's by other rockstar bloggers, but this time I dove in and gave it a try myself!

I used Essie's Vanity Fairest nail polish as my basecoat. I chose a barely there base to let the glitter stand out, but I think bright colors could be a lot of fun too! My glitter coat was Sephora by OPI in Sparktacular (it was the closest I could find to Deborah Lippmann's Birthday polish).

My first step was to cut and file my nails as best as I could to create that salon look. Then I added a couple of coats of the Essie light pink coat. (I had to ask my brother take the photo of me painting my nails, as I only have two hands! He rolled his eyes and obliged. Thanks Joey!)

Then I added the glitter JUST to the tips of my nails (photo on the left). After that dried, I added another layer of glitter, building up the coat at the tips and then bringing some glitter down towards the cuticles to create an ombre/fade effect (photo on the right).

The last step was to add Essie's top coat "No Chips Ahead" just to keep the glitter from chipping or flaking off. It's my first time trying this top coat so we'll see if it does the job!

STYLING GUIDE:: DSquared Pre-Fall 2012

DSquared is always spot on with their styling. Their collections are usually quite basic, not too cutting edge, but that works in our favor! I like to find similar pieces at Zara and use DSquared as a guide for styling, especially their Fall/Winter collections for layering. I'm also in love with the hair and makeup. Perfect for a holiday party, or even just to add a ladylike flair to your typical tee and jeans look. I'll for sure be trying the eyeliner soon.

On a separate note, I have a thing for Barbara Palvin. She's just the most feminine beauty.

Glittery Bags are NOT just for Christmas

You guessed it. I want this for Christmas. But can I wear a glittery green bag year round? Can I wear a glittery green bag to the grocery store? Undecided. As I've said before, when making purchase decisions I do my research. How do other girls wear it? How does it look in real life (as opposed to the product photographs on the web shop). Below you'll find Betty, of the impossibly cool blog leblogdebetty. You'll see that the bag is actually a lot smaller than you (well I) expected. I think that makes the quantity of bling palatable for day. Don't you? It's settled then. Green glittery bag functions night and day Christmas and non-Christmas. Now onto price, and can us non-Parisians even acquire the Lancaster Paris bag??? YES! Thanks to Nasty Gal, who I'm pretty sure read my mind because they now have the "disco" bag in both blue and green in their New Arrivals. They're $178 with free shipping... I'll have to mull over that number a bit. And ponder possible outfit combinations. But consider this a Christmas wish.

CATWALK STREET STYLE:: Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2011

In writing my post for Young Sophisticates on Dolce & Gabbana's F/W 11, I recalled all of the fabulous street style looks that resulted from that collection. There are repeat offenders, namely Anna Dello Russo and Denni the chicmuse, but then there was also Beyonce's big reveal! That green glitter dress has also been a particular favorite on magazine covers in the last few months, and it's easy to see why. If I could wear any dress this holiday season it would be that green mermaid one - for obvious reasons (green, sparkle, Christmas, I could go on). I would also note that Denni's wearing her Prada pumps with every outfit. Now that's what I call an all-purpose shoe!

THIS WEEK ON:: KATE BOSWORTH

My favorite thing about KB's style is the laid back, effortless feel to all of her looks. When defining my own sense of style 'effortless' is right at the top of my list of desired traits. I'd like to think that my clothes don't wear me, and that's always a consideration when trying new trends (especially in a crowd of non-bloggers). It can be really difficult to define your style and keep shopping focused when we have so many fabulous examples of different styles on blogs that influence us daily, and sometimes I worry that my look is kind of all over the place. But I take comfort in the fact that, in this post Kate can be seen in a beautiful 1950's lemon lace frock AND an Olsen-esque all-black maxi look too.

I'm fully aware that Kardashian waves are in right now, but how natural does Kate's hair look in all of these pics? Even in her most formal looks she keeps her hair naturally down or simply pulls it back and away from her face. I think that definitely adds to her effortless appeal. Unfortunately if I let my hair down with such little styling I'd have a fro on my hands. But the point is, less can be more when it comes to hair. Oh, and makeup! That is, if she even wears ANY. Maybe just a bit of mascara to frame her best accessory: those mis-matched eyes.

SHOEMINT VS. STEVE MADDEN

Shoemint's Edith & Steve Madden's Viktoree

Ok, what's going on here?

Following my post on the Shoemint Edith pump I found them to be, sadly, sold out! I've added myself to the waitlist but in my state of shopper's regret came across these "Viktoree" pumps by Steve Madden! From my understanding Shoemint shoes are designed by Rachel Bilson and stylist Nicole Chavez and manufactured by Steve Madden, the Shoemint website even says these shoes are named after Rachel's grandma?... so I'm not quite sure why the same exact Shoemint shoes are for sale on SteveMadden.com for $50 extra? On the one hand I'm thrilled that I'm still able to get the sold out Edith (albeit they're much more expensive) but on the other hand I'm confused as to who is designing what, and is there a difference in quality between the two? But mostly I'm just happy that the Edith is still available for $50 more dollars, in case you're feeling really desperate.

For now I'm going to hold out on the waitlist because in my experience Jewelmint has shown that old favorites come back in stock (and on sale!) quite often. Also the 20% off of my first Shoemint purchase will make the Edith $64, making it a $66 difference between the two brands. Definitely worth the wait I think!

SHOPPING AT:: THE FEATHER BAR

So the whole feather extension thing sort of passed me right by, and I had accepted that. But when I borrowed my friend M's feather earring last weekend I caught the feather fever... bad. I've been searching Etsy high and low for the just the right one and have had no luck so far, until NOW. Introducing Edge of Urge's FEATHER BAR!

Yeah, Feather Bar. I just had to repeat it because it's just that good. You could pick up one of their handmade ready-made pieces (all those cute ones above!).
I personally am really digging the single earring look, so my advice would be to buy a pair of earrings and then gift one to your best bud for Christmas!

GEOMETRIC SEQUINS FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Hey girls! As part of my effort to up the personal ante on here, I'm sharing a few of my instagram snaps! I took these this weekend and everything shown is my by fav: Zara. This month more than any other is a perfect excuse to wear ALL of the sequins in your closet that only see the light of day (or night!) once a year. And I actually think I'm seeing more sequins this year than ever before. I personally haven't bought any sequin pants, shorts, or skirts yet because quite frankly, I'm intimidated, but I think the key to coming off as more high fashion and less Charlotte Russe clubwear is in fresh prints like these Navajo inspired geometric looks.

You cannot receive any higher endorsement than Taylor Tomasi and Hanne Gaby Odiele, two of the most unique dressers I've ever seen. I'm quite sure we would all love an ounce of their fashion ingenuity! Their pieces are both from the Ashish Fall 2011 collection, but there are some similar prints at lower price points available at Zara and Asos.

I suppose my main hang-up when purchasing sequined pieces is the feeling that they're only appropriate one night of the year: New Year's Eve. But I don't think that's the case with these. For the summer I'd pair this skirt with a white blazer and tank top and some simple leather sandals like these. Now, I've successfully convinced myself that it's multi-functional, does that qualify for a purchase??

Do we love M's fur vest?

It's not so often that I post pictures of my real life (hence the title, let's get real). To be quite frank taking good quality outfit photos is a lot of work! And you may have noticed I've been contributing regularly on other fabulous blogs, so unfortunately I haven't been putting an incredible amount of work into Fuji Files. Travesty!

As I discuss fashion on coco+kelley and interiors on Camille Styles, I am going to start focusing this blog more on my own personal life and style. Just a little experiment I'll be conducting. So without further ado, here are some photos of me, in real life. These snaps were taken this weekend with my beautiful bestie Marisa and our two handsome beaus at one of my new favorite cocktail bars, the East Side Showroom.

Also you may have noticed something is missing - my notebook layout! That's another experiment I'll be trying on here for the next week.

Just LOVE this look. The seams of the dress, the minty color I never grow tired of, presumably a vintage clutch and some fabulous lipstick. I also spy some Peridot nail polish. And perfectly shaped shades. And did you notice the ribbon detail on the back? Am I gushing? Ok, I'll stop. Oh but the ballet flats! And the best part is it feels like she threw this on without a moment's notice. Hair up into a bun as she walked out the door.

SO FALL IS A NO-SHOW

I know it's fall, but it is ACTUALLY 80 degrees here in Texas. I can't wear any of the scarves I knitted, or the beanies I've bought, or even the dark red lipstick I'm dying to try because it feels like summer up in here! So instead of tall boots and chunky knits, I suppose I'll have to settle for my next favorite combo of the mo: racer backs and pencil skirts. There's just that tricky matter of underthings (notice none of these girls have bra straps showing) but once I tackle that issue, I'll be ready to throw on a patterned pencil and a pair of flats and be on my hot non-fall way.

Are you all experiencing real seasons? Or is the heat preventing you from cute fall layering too?

Blogger confession, Rumi Neely was the first blogger I fell in love with over 4 years ago. When 90% of her outfits consisted of cut off jean shorts. She also introduced me to a love for persimmon-colored high heeled Docs (if anyone can do it, Rumi can).

Fast forward 4 years.

I have been carrying around this iphone case with two huge rabbit ears I found on Amazon for 3 dollars that everyone has been teasing me about, my mom calls it a Playboy phone, my dad calls my ears antennae, my brother rolls his eyes. So imagine my glee when I noticed Rumi has my iphone case!

I have a leather mini-skirt, I came this close to the pleated leather skirt trend, but now? It's ALL about the slit. It's so 90's. Not that I was wearing leather skirts with thigh high slits in the 90's (when I was 5). But that would have been very Carine Roitfeld, no?

I particularly love that Caroline (of CarolinesMode) styled the looks with sneakers instead of the standard stiletto. Dalmatian spotted sneakers to be exact. And dalmatians are way hotter than leopard right now - did you see Topshop Unique's collection?

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!

It's my birthday! And my mom's too. Happy birthday mom!!! We have a shopping date planned and we're meeting up with my dad for lunch at my favorite restaurant, where I will order my favorite meal. Topped off with a trip to Sprinkles cupcakery! All in all, it's shaping up to be a beautiful day.

I'LL HAVE WHAT SHE'S HAVING:: ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY

Looking at all of these different looks by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, I realize that they're actually not all that different! That, I think, is the key to true personal style.
Surfing fashion blogs we see so many girls looking equally fabulous in so many different styles, from modern minimalist to bohemian chic. It's so easy to fall into a state of style schizophrenia! And there's nothing wrong with that, except it can be really expensive.

What I really love about Rosie's personal style is that she is so consistent, most of her outfits start with the same base - leather leggings, tan suede ankle boots, a t-shirt, a hat, and a jacket with a bit of structure and volume. It's a bonus that I already have most of those pieces. I'm working on editing my shopping habits, so creating these collections are helping me focus my own style.

As with all things, the key is in the mix. This fall I plan to mix cozy pieces with edgy accessories, so now I'm wondering where to get the coziest of all pieces - that jacket.
It's totally the Snuggle bear in jacket form, am I right? I always wanted to hug one, and now I want to curl up in one.

ALEXA CHUNG'S OMBRE GLITTER MANICURE

Each of my nails has a different glitter nail polish on it right now.

The result of seeing Alexa's manicure and way too much time spent in the nail polish aisle yesterday.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any polishes with big chunky sparkles in it like these green ones, but the search continues! I'm considering usually actual glitter from the arts and crafts section with a bit of clear nail polish. Nails are the hottest new accessory, and as you can tell I'm really getting into it!
I want to try different base colors underneath, like white with gold glitter, or mint with silver glitter!

This is one of my favorite aesthetics - simple, clean lines. Modern Basics. Relaxed Luxe. When I really break down my own personal style this is at the heart of it. Stylish without trying too hard. Fashionable without repelling men within a 20-foot radius. On-trend yet classic. Casual yet elegant.

I could go on.

And the best part? We can all attain this look with smart shopping decisions: basic tees, skinny's, heels and blazers, all in neutral whites, blacks and greys. Update your basics with leather separates like pants, skirts, and shorts. Top it off with a structured bag and sunglasses in a classic shape. The most important element? Flattering fit.

I've got my shopping list, now it's time to focus on the essentials and not fall prey to trends. (My weakness is shoes!)

Givenchy.

The word "wearable" doesn't immediately spring to mind.

Which is why I was pleasantly surprised by this season's collection of wearable, sports-minded looks. I'd almost go so far as to say this is the most wearable collection of the season, for my collared shirt and blazer mood of late. The shades of blush and nude are feminine but not too sweet. The shoes sleek, and minimalist, though I still feel Alexander Wang's would have gone better. The styling of the metal chokers under the buttoned up collars were so on-trend.
And the giant shark teeth!? Brilliant. They add an edge (heh. heh.) while remaining perfectly polished. Something to look out for while thrifting.

MANICURE:: NOIR FRENCH TIPS

Love this play on French tips.

Ivania of Love Aesthetics got the look by painting her nails black (she used Rimmel) and then went over the top with a matte topcoat by Essie. So simple! This obviously looks superchic in black, but the beauty of it is it could work in any color. I might try one of my nude Essie colors.

Or navy. Or mint. Or grey. All of my nail polishes just got an update!

And as an added bonus diy, her ring is a necklace chain wrapped around her finger. Ingenius!

CELINE SKATEBOARDS

What would cause an otherwise sensible girl who has never (properly) stepped foot on a skateboard to pull out her wallet and purchase not one, not two, but THREE skateboard decks? Call it obsession, love, addiction, whatever it is, I've got it. bad.

It all started with an unforgettable collection by Celine. Followed by an impossibly cool ad campaign. Then one of my style icons, Christine Centenera, rocking them all over the place. One of my favorite musicians, performing in this (women's) top at Coachella.

So when Jayne of Stop It Right Now created these Celine-inspired skateboard decks nothing was going to stop me from scooping them right up. Nothing.
It's as if all of 2011 was just a sequence of events leading up to this ~~moment~~ purchase! (Like I said, obsession). Now begins the overly anxious wait for the postman, you know that feeling.

What on earth am I going to do with three unusable skateboards, you ask. Well it might go a little something like this....

MILAN FASHION WEEK:: PRADA

"Italian men have two loves in their lives: women and cars."

Miuccia combined everything sweet - roses and pleats and jewels, with the very literal inspiration of vintage cars. Skirts feature flames like those painted on old sports cars, the sunglasses look like car fenders and the shoes look like Matchbox stilettos. Any other designer and this is might be gimmicky, but no doubt Miuccia's car creations will be EVERYWHERE this spring - editorials, Anna Dello Russo's feet, everywhere.

Question is, when Topshop starts selling car fender sunglasses, will we be buying them? Or will they look like we stole our little brothers' Disney glasses?

Poppy Delevigne was a standout for me at London Fashion Week. From her Christopher Kane gorilla dress (which still looks good!) to her green Sass and Bide blazer. And all topped off with her red Ray-Bans -- points for anyone who can rock red and green in the summertime. You might also know Poppy's sister Cara, also a model, I'm sure you'd recognize her if you frequent Asos (Cara has caused me many an Asos purchase!) in addition to being the face of Burberry.

I wouldn't mind a few of their genes ;)

Van Gogh.

The dreaminess of Starry Night worked into the dark, romantic silhouettes of Rodarte. I'm just confused as to why this didn't happen before now!? Along with Van Gogh's sunflowers artfully erupting all over sundresses and full retro skirts. It's a match made in starry heaven. The construction is exquisite in that Mulleavy sister way, like those cutouts in the front. I'm so in love with how the swirly girly prettiness is juxtaposed against the dark panda eyes of the models. Rodarte, you beauty!

Always happy to see great design coming out of Australia. The Aussie designer duo first showed at London Fashion Week in 2002, and they've grown into a wildly successful label since then, fueled by appearances on Sex and the City.

"We were on our way to an appointment and walked past the set of Sex and the City where Sarah Jessica Parker was filming, I took off my denim jacket and handed it to the security guard who gave it to SJP. Crystals, studs, embroidery, sequins, snakeskin - there are just so many brilliant colors and textures to admire on the arms of NYFW-goers! I've just noticed that not one of these photos contains a black leather bag. My personal favorite is that iphone case, encrusted in crystals of all sizes from huge down to tiny. Time for another DIY? Actually, first it is high time I get an iphone!! C'mon iphone 5, I'm growing impatient with all of these cute cases all up in my face.

BEAUTY FILES:: PINK LIPSTICK

Obviously I'm gaga for bright pink lips at the moment. I think I'm going to take the plunge! But I plan to experiment with a cheap brand like NYX first before committing to YSL (or Revlon for that matter). To be worn with mascara only (naked eyes!). If you want the color to stick around (and not leave marks when you take a classy sip of wine) then use the method above!

Needless to say, this is not a look for your boyfriend. In fact it's safe to say he'll hate it. Do we care? No.

I feel like I'm cheating on fashion with makeup, but one of my secret (not so secret now!) addictions are makeup tutorials on Youtube! Here's one of the best, Lisa Eldridge, with her take on the pink lip. The lipstick starts at 11:27 if that's all you're interested in.

I believe Kate Bosworth has a movie coming out and possibly a new beau, but let's be honest who really cares?? Let's have a look at what she's wearing!

We can all appreciate the OTT style of Anna Dello Russo, but the best element of Kate Bosworth's style is the ease of it. It's as if she takes 5 minutes to get ready in the morning yet she always walks out the door looking smashing. And I know I'm attracted to the prospect of 5-minute fabulosity. I've been studying these photos with textbook-like precision in the hopes that it might influence me when I'm running out the door (late for something).
Of course Kate has a secret weapon on her side - and that's Isabel Marant. Just try counting the number of Marant pieces pictured above, I dare you.

DIY FILES:: STUDDED IPHONE CASE

When Kaila of C'est Classique saw the Death Roll iPhone case by BLEACHBLACK she was ready to purchase one, but they're not for sale yet! Time for a DIY.

Kaila purchased 1/2" tree spikes from Studs and Spikes. They are really easy to install, you just have to screw them together. She also ordered a relatively reasonable silicone iPhone case from Ebay, it only cost $4. K suggests either Amazon or Ebay. You just have to make sure it is simple, plain, and nothing on it. Any color you want will do!

She started by lining up and arranging the studs in the way that she wanted them to look. It took about 43 studs all together. Make sure they are evenly spaced! Next, she took a pen and marked where each stud stood. This will help you when you have to puncture holes through the silicone.

She didn't want the opening to be enormous, so she used a sewing needle to go through the mark first, and then the tip of a wine bottle opener to make the hole wide enough for the screw to fit in. Once you get the screw in from the back side of the case, screw the stud on it. To make the studs snug, you can use a screwdriver to tighten them.

Very Kate Lanphear, no?

It looks slightly painful, but Kaila says it doesn't hurt to hold! They wiggle around, and your fingers fit nicely between the studs. Just don't, yunno, sit on it! I imagine this phone could be used to settle a tiff with a boyfriend, or as a method of self defense. So many benefits from one little diy.

HOW TO:: STYLE FOR FALL

I know, it's nearly impossible to follow the extraordinary color palette of this J.Crew lookbook, but there might be days when you don't feel like putting on pink capris and an orange turtle neck, or a lemon pencil skirt. And for those days? We turn to Madewell.

I realize it is over 100 degrees... 113 in my car to be exact! But I can't help but yearn for layers when looking at these lookbooks. So far I've knitted a scarf and a snood and the end of summer is nowhere in sight (although temperatures did dip to 95 today).
C'monnn fall! I'm so ready for red Doc Martens and striped sweaters. Or to dress things up, candy-colored trousers and striped sweaters.

Apparently I'm into striped sweaters at the mo. See how I mixed one with vintage florals over on coco+kelley!

p.s. What do we think of Blogger's new look? I think I like it..

DIY FILES:: FRAMED CHALKBOARD

I love this pretty DIY by Aimee of Song of Style. She found her frame at the Fairfax Flea Market, but I'm sure there are fancy frames in need of some DIY love everywhere. Perhaps you have a gilded gold frame that could use a coat of white paint and some chalkboard paint?
It's really quite simple as far as diys are concerned! A few strokes of chalkboard paint and you're set!

If your frame has a board backing then all you have to do is sand it smooth, apply primer, and coat with chalkboard paint. Wait 3 days before writing on it with chalk. Done!
However if your frame has no board backing, you'll need to buy a thin board (like particle board) and saw it to the right size and shape. Then prime & paint!

Despite 105 degree conditions, and despite the fact that today my summer sandals started to melt WHILE I was wearing them....... I'm learning to knit!

I adore stylist Elisa Nalin's color explosions! She makes me want to abandon all of my black go-to's and mix my brights. Check out her colorful pad on the Selby too. She designs shoes and judging by her style I'm pretty sure I would love them!
